Whedon for Zomney

Well, it's been a few months since I've had 5 minutes to post anything. That's how this mommy-hood thing goes, I hear. But, we're deep into Fall, time is about to change, so I should have more time in the house and perhaps 5 more minutes to post fun, geeky things. Like this.

Joss Whedon (one of my favs) created a parody pro-Romney commercial, noting the Governor's ability to lead us right into a zombie apocalypse. Good times. Only thing that would've made this better if it was set in a slightly futuristic, post-apocalyptic future (a la Walking Dead or Revolution) with a few "shamblers" wandering in the windows behind him.

Enjoy. And Happy Halloween.

Dead Island Game Trailer

The Husband suggested I check out the new Dead Island video game trailer, posted all around the inner-tubes yesterday (for me, discovered via friend Winda Benedetti at MSNBC). And the inner-tubes don't lie, people. This is one helluva trailer. Check it out, then let's discuss...

Not only is the animation breathtaking (wow, is it), but there is a story in this 3-minute clip that is dramatic and heart wrenching. I'm no film student, but I really liked the device used of moving time both forward and backward. The music is sedate and melancholy (I didn't even notice it the first time through), in sharp contrast to the gruesomeness of the visuals. And while I didn't cry, the last 15 seconds -- a flashback to happier times -- gave me the chills.

I'm sure like many others today, I can't wait to see the game itself.

This also reminds me to always be prepared for that zombie uprising. **Shudder**

Lest You Forget, It's Halloween this Weekend!

I wish I was feeling it more for Halloween this year -- seems like it came up just too soon (even though it's October 31st every year). Thankfully, the Innertubes have got me covered for Halloween this year. I can participate like the true voyeur that I am, watching from the sidelines and taking notes.

First up, The Walken Dead (h/t Laughing Squid). As you may, or may not know, the TV series The Walking Dead, based on the amazing Robert Kirman comic book of the same name, starts this weekend on AMC. I'm cursing the TV gods now that my tuner card went out, so I can't get that channel and really hope that AMC will post the episode online.

Anyway, dude created a loving tribute to both The Walking Dead and actor Christopher Walken in a few prints that pay homage to both.

Speaking of zombies, did you see what Sears did to their website this week? WOW! Zombified Sears!! Totally check it out!

One other zombie-related link, just because. Zombieharmony!

...because the apocalypse doesn't have to be lonely

In non-zombie news, while you are treating your Halloween hangover, don't forget that 2011 SD Comic-Con tickets go on sale at 9 AM, November 1st. The 4-day passes sold out incredibly quickly last year, so set a reminder for this one!

And finally, also via Laughing Squid, this awesome movie map of the US, from subtronix. I like that The Goonies represents Oregon! (click to enlarge)

Walking Dead Gifts for You

The premier of AMC's The Walking Dead in just few weeks away, and you better believe, this no lost marketing opportunity! Comics Alliance reports that Robert Kirkman's fan favorite is branching out into novels and plushie toys, so you too can get your zombie on!

Just in time for Halloween/Christmas/Zombie Apocalypse:

Zombie Spock

I love fall, especially because of Halloween and all the fun geek tie-ins that show up this time of year. Also, the leaves changing color is really pretty, and even though that has nothing to do with pop culture, it's part of fall and makes me happy. So there.

Via Laughing Squid today is a post of a supremely awesome zombie Spock t-shirt (by Shawn Conn). Thumb's up! Now, where's my zombie Picard?? (could be titled "Brains, Number 1" or "Grey Brains, Hot"). Could be a whole great series!

Wanna Be a Zombie?

One of the great zombie comics of our day, The Walking Dead, is headed to TV via AMC. I heard an interview with author Robert Kirkman last weekend, and started getting excited about the possibilities of a live action zombie TV show.

Via ComicBookMovie.com, The Walking Dead will start filming soon (like, tomorrow) in Atlanta, GA.

The production is looking for many extras with flexible schedules between June and September to appear as zombies for the series. All extras selected must attend 'Zombie School.' The 'zombies’ who have been chosen so far have already been attending class all week.

I love the notion of Zombie School! I hope someone documents that experience for the DVD extras... Anyway, if you find yourself in Atlanta this summer and looking for something to do, you too can be a zombie! And if you haven't checked out this graphic novel yet, here is your first item for your summer reading list.
