X-men: First Class Trailer

X-men: First Class trailer out now (via CBR's website)!

Probably need to watch this again a time or two, but it looks better than I thought it would. I'm not sure if that means I expected garbage or if it really looks good, but that's how it goes some days. I'm pretty sure this will follow absolutely none of the comic book continuity, but luckily for me, I wasn't a big X-men diehard fan, so I can live with it as long as there is a decent plot and good characters/acting.

I don't know most of the young actors attached to this project, but I am happy to see Kevin Bacon and Ray Wise appearing in the credits. Another generation of folks who can continue the fun of "6 Degrees of Kevin Bacon!" Huzzah~

The movie is scheduled for release on June 3rd at about 1,000 theaters near you. I'm sure there will be more to say on this one as summer approaches.

Casting News: X-men First Class

As previously announced, the X-men prequel will be directed by Matthew Vaughn (Kick Ass) and produced by former X-Men director Bryan Singer for release on June 2, 2011. The latest casting news on the X-men prequel is that James McAvoy will play the role of Professor X. McAvoy was in Wanted (with Angelina Jolie -- haven't seen it, but premise was vaguely interesting as I recall) and Atonement (Oscar winning movie based on Ian McEwan's novel).

I'm not familiar with this guy, and maybe that's a good thing. I mean, who can replace Patrick Stewart as Professor X? Love. Him.

X-Men First Class - Release Date Set

According to Variety online, Matthew Vaughn is set to direct the next installment of X-Men, a prequel entitled "First Class." The LA Times reports that "the movie basically hits reset on the franchise by going back to the twentysomethings who became the superheroes we later knew."

The film is scheduled to start shooting this summer and is planned for release next summer (June 2011). Summer schedule is already looking packed for next summer with another Mission Impossible and Pirates of the Caribbean, plus Thor all set to release around the same time.

Any thoughts on casting? I'm hoping for some unknowns myself...

It's all moving so quickly! Bets on when we'll see a trailer? Thanksgiving, maybe? Xmas?
